The Dragon is the price of peace.

Celia hunts the things that threaten villages and crops across Tallanor. The crown's politics are someone else's problem. Her dying sister is hers.

When a royal summons names her Dragon Slayer, Celia refuses. She's forced into it anyway, with a handler assigned to make sure she doesn't turn back.

But the road to the Dragon runs through the wreckage every Slayer before her left behind. Elves gone feral after a mage-Slayer stole their magic to end a war. A madman chained to a tower wall, his power bleeding into the sky because another Slayer chose mercy. Every kingdom expects her to fix what others broke. And bear the blame for what comes after.

The closer she gets, the more she suspects the system isn't broken at all. It's working exactly as designed.
